The Eleven Cities Skating Museum
In picturesque Hindeloopen, a characteristic building houses the First Frisian Skating Museum. The museum houses the largest collection of ice skates in the world. There are Baron Van Welmont's silver skates, W.A. van Buren's skates and the largest skate in the world. Of course, you will also learn all about the history of the Elfstedentocht here. The museum is open all year round.
Sneek
For a very short while in the 15th century, Sneek was the capital of Friesland. Logical, if you are the Central Station for all Frisian water traffic. Sneek is still that hub, and the annual Sneekweek reminds us of that in abundance. Thanks to the shops, pavement cafes and parks of historic Sneek, it's great to linger the rest of the year too. The place to start your journey of discovery through Hindeloopen! This museum was created on the initiative of married couple Hidde and Adriana Nijland-Volker. They were an art and antiques collector and started collecting Hindeloopen objects at a young age. The collection has been on display at the museum since 1919, making it the oldest museum in Friesland.
