Eleven Cities Route

Nowhere else can you find a route as varied as the Elfstedentocht. The Elfstedentocht on skates is the first—and therefore the oldest—tour passing through all eleven cities of Fryslân. When will the Elfstedentocht be able to take place again? In addition to the traditional Elfstedentocht on skates, several other tours are now organized through all eleven Frisian cities. The Cycling Elfstedentocht on Pentecost Monday is the prime example of this. For over 100 years, approximately 15,000 participants have been cycling the Cycling Elfstedentocht on Pentecost Monday. The route of this 235-kilometer tour starts and finishes in Bolsward. To complete the tour, participants must collect all the stamps at the various checkpoints and arrive at the final finish checkpoint in Bolsward by midnight at the latest. In addition to the Cycling Elfstedentocht, there are also versions for scooters, tractors, canoes, and classic cars.
